Reticulated polyurethane foam is a net-like, porous foam that is extremely versatile. While some foams are formed with a series of bubble-like cells, reticulated polyurethane foam has mainly open cells. Typically, 95-98% of cells are open in reticulated polyurethane foam. This open cell construction is valuable in a variety of applications and is especially useful in instances where liquids and/or air is required to be absorbed or filtered.

Uses for reticulated polyurethane foam can be expanded by adjusting the size, shape and density of the foam acquired. This type of foam is resistant to tearing and is very pliable. It is used in a wide variety of industries from automotive to electronics to cosmetics.

The characteristics of reticulated polyurethane foam include:

  • Sound absorption
  • Liquid absorption
  • Chemical resistant
  • Pliable and compressive
  • Mold and mildew resistant
  • Lightweight Resilient
  • Tear resistant

The above sponge-like qualities make reticulated polyurethane foam useful in so many industries and in a variety of ways.

  • Vehicle and small engine air filters
  • Water purification
  • Air conditioning filters
  • Speaker grills
  • Microphone windscreens
  • Cosmetic applicators
  • Face mask filters
  • Humidifier filters and pads
  • Acoustic tiles

Reticulated polyurethane foam can easily be formed, cut and shaped into a variety of products including pads and gaskets to limit squeaks and rattling in vehicles. It is widely used in managing and absorbing sound. Its wicking and chemical resistant capabilities make it a popular choice for industrial cleaning sponges, ink cartridges, and other fluid management products.

Although it is available in a variety of custom colors, reticulated polyurethane foam is often produced in black and grays. If you need material with exceptional filtering and absorption qualities, contact us and learn more about reticulated polyurethane foam.
